What is a baby equipment rental company?

Baby equipment rental companies make travel easier and more comfortable for traveling families. “BabyQuip aims to take the hassle out of traveling with young children by renting out baby gear – strollers, pack ’n plays, cribs, car seats, high chairs, toys, and much more – at hundreds of vacation destinations throughout the U.S. and Canada. Once parents visit BabyQuip and type in their destination and travel dates, they’ll see BabyQuip Quality Providers (QPs) who deliver to that area. Parents choose the equipment they want and provide delivery specifics. Once they place the order they receive an email confirmation, then the BabyQuip QP checks back with them a day or so before their travel date. The BabyQuip QP also receives an email with the order confirmation details and the order is uploaded right to her phone’s calendar. On delivery day she loads up her car and heads to the family’s hotel, vacation rental, or the private home where they will be staying.”

How can parents earn income from renting out baby gear they already own?

Similar to Uber or Lyft, VRBO, and other sharing economy businesses, baby equipment rental companies like BabyQuip use peer-to-peer sharing of goods and services to meet a need. “BabyQuip takes it a step further because they help you launch your own business and train you as an entrepreneur. While you may begin with the gear you already have, you’ll quickly amass a larger inventory of rentable gear. The BabyQuip platform creates a marketplace at which Independent Quality Providers can build their own business, delivering and setting up baby gear they own. Quality Providers really are running their own businesses. They do local sales and marketing, select the gear they want to rent, and set their own rental and delivery fees. BabyQuip pays them 81.5 percent of the rental fee and 81.5 percent of the delivery fee on each order. They keep one hundred percent of their tips.”

What was the motivation to start BabyQuip?

“BabyQuip’s original founder stumbled upon the idea a few years back when she realized her children, separated in age by only 19 months, were no longer toddlers. After her husband asked her to get rid of the unused high chairs, strollers, step stools, and cribs cluttering the family garage, she decided on a whim to build a quick website and offer the gear for rent instead. She realized she had struck gold. Within three days she had made $300 in orders for baby gear she already owned!

There was an underserved market with a real problem. It’s a hassle to travel with all the baby and child gear you need to enjoy a safe, relaxing, and fun vacation experience. BabyQuip offers a win-win solution. We empower parents — often stay-at-home moms — to become successful baby gear rental entrepreneurs while also helping families travel easier. The idea took off quickly and BabyQuip is already in most markets families travel to in the U.S., and some in Canada too.”

What are the steps to becoming a BabyQuip Independent Quality Provider?

Becoming a Quality Provider is easy. You’ll be invited to a brief online orientation then follow with a on-one-one interview conducted by another Quality Provider. Get your questions answered in this meeting and learn more about the company. Once you’ve done that we set you up with a BabyQuip account and build your Website. Then, once you have just a little inventory — we set you live. You can get an order at any point after that. The first order is always exciting!”

  1. This is totally an awesome idea. I’m a ftm due in June and am looking for ways to make money while staying at home with baby. I live in DC. However, my question is “is it ever too early for a mom/parent to sign up for babierge?”

    Thank you so much.

    1. Hi LaTanya – Congratulations on your new baby! That’s really a question you’d need to answer for yourself. If you’re looking for a flexible job so you can focus on your newborn, Babierge may be be a fabulous option for you! I’d suggest giving it a try to see how it works for you. 🙂

  2. I am very interested in this!. I live 15 minutes from Newport RI, a destination area. Do you think this would be a good place to have a local partner?

    1. Hi Lauren, My name is Nicole and I am the Community Manager at Babierge. Yes, we think that’s a great location and actually most cities and towns across the country are. Even if you don’t live in a typically touristy town, everyone brings their babies home to visit grandma and grandpa. Please reach out to me at Nicole@babierge.com or start your process at babierge.com/signup.

  3. What a great way to put old baby items to use and make a little side cash from it too. I would have hopped on this when my girls were little. Since they are now teens, I’m probably not the target audience, but my cousin just had a baby so I’ll be sure to send this link to her so she can check it out.

  4. Love this idea. I recall traveling with toddlers back in the day and wishing for a service like this, especially with twins. Needing two of things was often a challenge when traveling. Great idea.

  5. Babierge is an awesome business opportunity. I love the way mothers can still make use and earn money from baby gear. If this company had been around earlier, I would have joined it instead of selling my kids’ baby gear.

  6. I’ve never thought of this! Such a cool money-making idea. Unfortunately, we don’t have any baby items from when our kids were babies. The joys of family….pass alongs!

    1. I suppose you could invest in some new baby equipment if you’re looking for a way to earn some side cash!

    1. So true. Babierge does a good job of thoroughly cleaning the equipment between each rental, too.

  7. Hello, Your blog is really cool. There are loads of women who think that traveling with children is absolutely impossible. Your amazing travel blog proves an absolutely opposite thing. Travel with children is possible, and moreover, it might be very enjoyable! I hope that your awesome blog will become a great inspiration for millions of moms around the world!
Thanks for your writing! I wish you new levels of success!
