Baby Jogger City Tour Stroller Review for Travel

A bulky stroller can make traveling with babies and toddlers difficult. You need a compact stroller that is easy to collapse and maneuver. Traveling moms and dads out there, I’m telling you: the Baby Jogger City Tour Stroller is the BEST stroller for travel. It will help you navigate airports, city sidewalks, and other public spaces with ease. Read on to learn why you’re going to want to buy this stroller before your next family vacation.

Easy to Steer

On our first test run with our new Baby Jogger City Tour Stroller, we explored the Rail Trail here in Charlotte. The first thing I noticed was how well it turned as I whipped it around pylons and other obstacles, much to the laughter of my son and the panic of my wife.

We have since used it on narrow sidewalks on our trip to Lexington, Kentucky and in large crowds like at Cheerwine’s Centennial Celebration in Salisbury, North Carolina. Both resulted in fewer panics of the stroller tipping over and less “excuse me’s” from bumping into people.

And, you can easily steer it one-handed.

Compact for Seamless Packing and Convenience

Unlike our old bulky stroller, the Baby Jogger City Tour Stroller is easy to fold up into a compact shape. It folds into thirds, not in half. Thus, it easily stashes away into trunks, the corner of a tight restaurant, or behind your seat on a subway. When we attended a minor league baseball game, all the other parents had to store their strollers across the stadium in a designated area while ours fit nicely under our seats.

The Baby Jogger City Tour stroller even comes with a backpack holder so you can carry it onto planes. Yes, it folds down enough to fit into an overhead compartment, so you don’t have to wait on the jetway for your stroller with an already squirmy baby.

Even if you drive a compact car, the Baby Jogger City Tour Stroller makes a good choice to keep in your trunk. It folds up so small, you’ll even be able to add groceries without a problem.

Lightweight, Yet Sturdy

At only 14 pounds, my wife can easily lift the Baby Jogger City Tour Stroller one-handed if I’m not around to help. This is especially important considering the rest of the bulk that comes along with toddler travel. Also, I have a bad back from multiple car accidents, and the weight of the stroller doesn’t bother me when I heave it onto my back in its case.

Since this stroller is so light, be aware that if you strap a heavy diaper bag to the handle and your child gets out, the stroller will topple over. Normally, I push the stroller, and my wife takes the diaper bag due to my back injuries. If your diaper bag or backpack is small enough, though, you can stow it below the seat in the storage basket.

Almost the Same Functionality as a Full-Size Stroller

With other compact strollers, you lose the safety and functionality of a normal stroller. We have an umbrella stroller, but I refuse to use it. It doesn’t look like it could support the weight of a teddy bear, let alone a chunky toddler. The Baby Jogger City Tour Stroller, on the other hand, is as sturdy as our full-size stroller.

The seat in the Baby Jogger City Tour Stroller also folds to a near-flat position. This makes sleeping on the go a snap if our excursion intrudes upon our son’s nap time. We just flip the UV 50+ canopy down, and he’s out like a light.

Accessories Available for Purchase

This compact stroller doesn’t come with all of the bells and whistles of larger strollers, but you can upgrade your child’s ride with Baby Jogger’s accessories. For example, the Baby Jogger City Tour Stroller doesn’t come with a cup holder. As a beer writer, this is kind of a big deal to me. Meanwhile, the folding button is right where you would place your hands to steer the stroller, especially if you are steering the stroller with one hand while your other hand holds a bottle of…water. How am I supposed to hold my favorite IPA if we are navigating a city festival? Thankfully, Baby Jogger does sell a snap-on cup holder separately.

Or you could buy the Baby Jogger Parent Console, which comes equipped with an insulated cup holder, large covered storage pouch and secondary pouch. This console easily attaches to the handlebar.

You can also add a Belly Bar, from which you could dangle stroller toys for you child’s entertainment.

A Baby Jogger Weather Guard will keep your child dry in snowy or rainy weather, too.

  12. What a great stroller. As someone who doesn’t have kids, but I used to work with kids all the time, I had to deal with a lot of different strollers. I love ones that fold up, offer conveniences like cup holders, and have plenty of room for the child to sit up or lay down. There are people that bring 80 pound huge jogger strollers on buses that make it hard to get around them, even with them folded. I love how compact this stroller is once folded!

  15. That stroller looks great! When my kids were little, I looked and looked for one like this that collapsed down to such a manageable size. It would have been so nice!

    1. I’m sure we’ll look at some of the contraptions that parents have when our little guy is older with the same thought. “Wish that was out when Deacon was little!”
