Aquaventure Water Park

If swimming pools and waterslides appeal to your family, then get ready to dive in! Atlantis Bahamas boasts 11 swimming pools, four beaches, 18 waterslides, and two river rides as part of its Aquaventure Water Park. There’s also a seven-acre snorkeling lagoon, a perfect place to see marine life for those new to snorkeling.

Thrilling Waterslides

Adventurous teens will dig thrilling water rides at Atlantis. As part of a replica of an ancient Mayan Temple, Leap of Faith will wow the most jaded teenager with its 60-foot nearly perpendicular plunge that sends sliders through a shark-filled lagoon via a clear acrylic tunnel. Competitive siblings can race against each other on the Challenger Slides, two high-speed dueling rides.

Meanwhile, Serpent Slide riders spin in and out of blackness before emerging through the shark-filled lagoon. Not for the ride phobic, the Abyss drops thrill-seekers 50 near-vertical feet into total darkness before they float into an underground river.

Moderate Waterslides

Semi-adventurous kids and parents will be pleased to find waterslides just their speed on their Atlantis Bahamas vacation. Three inner-tube slides — The Drop, The Falls, and The Surge — utilize jets of water to create waves to propel riders. The Jungle Slide is even more easy-going; it meanders through a jungle-like landscape and caves at a mellow pace.

The Current

There’s nothing lazy about The Current, a mile-long river loop. Expect wave surges, drops up to seven feet, and white water rapids on this river ride.

The Lazy River

The whole family can chill out on The Lazy River together. Floaters kick back on a tranquil quarter-mile loop.

Water Play for Babies, Toddlers and Preschoolers

Children under 54 inches can get in on the splashy fun with their parents at Atlantis Paradise Island, too! Little sliders will love Ripples with its miniature waterslides galore. Splashers is a children’s pool and water play area. Then there’s Poseidon, with all sorts of fountains and in-play water structures just for wee ones.

Hotel Rooms for Families

Choose from a variety of room configurations, locations, and extras in five towers with five different price points at Atlantis. What’s more, kids 11 years and under always stay free at Atlantis Bahamas. Large groups, or those who just prefer suites for better sleep, will be pleased with an array of sweet suite options here. Deluxe rooms, meanwhile, work for smaller families.

The Beach at Atlantis

For value-minded guests, The Beach offers the Atlantis experience without breaking the bank. It’s located just steps away from Atlantis Beach. Room service is not provided in this tower, but The Beach guests have access to all other Atlantis offerings. Bonus: The Beach just unveiled a new oceanfront bar featuring small bites and yummy cocktails.

The Coral at Atlantis

Popular with multigenerational groups, The Coral at Atlantis boasts newly designed rooms along with a new pool and cabanas. Many rooms offer harbor views.

The Royal at Atlantis

Similar to The Coral, The Royal at Atlantis is a favorite among traveling families. It’s a mid-range offering, between more affordable The Beach and more expansive The Reef or more luxurious The Cove.

For the amenities of home and more space to spread out, book a studio, 1-, 2- or 3-bedroom suite in The Reef at Atlantis. Every room in this tower comes with a kitchenette or full kitchen, great for families who want to eat breakfast or other meals in during vacation. Parents traveling with babies and toddlers might be happiest here, for easy snack and meal-prep.

The Cove at Atlantis

Children are even welcome at The Cove at Atlantis, the location of the resort’s adults-only pool. Families can splash instead at Cascades Pool, which is shared with The Reef. This all-suite tower went through a relaunch in 2017. If ultimate luxury is what you want, the more secluded The Cove is where you belong.

Fees for participation vary, depending on time of day and length of time spent at Atlantis Kids Adventure. Open to ages 3 to 12, children can also choose their own adventures within themed spaces.

Tween and Teen Club

Atlantis is all about making sure every member of the family is content. That’s why big kids have CRUSH, a club all their own. Some tweens and teens can only take so much together time with parents on vacation. Get them on board with a Bahamas vacay by promising time with peers their own age at Atlantis Bahamas. Picture a 14,000-square-foot space dedicated to all the things tweens and teens love.

Interactive Animal Experiences

For an amazing experience your children will always remember, be sure to book an animal experience. Dolphin Cay opened at Atlantis Paradise Island Resort in 2007 as a safe haven for 17 stranded dolphins whose home was destroyed by Hurricane Katrina. Today, Atlantis guests can pay a fee to interact with such marine animals ranging from dolphins and sea lions at Dolphin Cay to sharks and rays in various lagoons around the property.

Corinne McDermott, editor of Have Baby Will Travel, says, “Sea Squirts is the cutest, cutest program for children ages 3-6. They learn about the various sea life at the resort and then don Atlantis rash guards (theirs to keep) and head into a small area to feed baby rays and (harmless) nurse sharks. I’m certain this experience has contributed to my son’s love of the sea and all marine life.”

Family Dining Options

Your family certainly won’t go hungry at Atlantis Bahamas! Choose from eight fine-dining options, including Fish by Chef José Andrés and Nobu by Chef Matsuhisa (where my husband and I had the best Japanese meal of our lives!). There are also many casual dining restaurants, some of which are located poolside. For parents’ night out, take your pick of an array of bars and nightclubs, too.

If you plan to eat on-property for the majority of your stay, then your family may want to purchase one of two Dining Plans. The Casual Dining Plan gives a choice of 10 restaurants for breakfasts and two-course dinners. The Gourmet Dining Plan provides a choice of 16 restaurants for breakfasts plus three-course dinners. Best of all for young families, children 6 and under dine for free on both plans.

Atlantis Day Passes

Even if you’re not staying at the resort, you can buy an Atlantis Bahamas day pass to experience the aquariums, water park, and other offerings at Atlantis. Christalee Walker, a mom of three, did a day trip to Atlantis during a Bahamian cruise. She advises other day-trippers to, “Make sure you have plenty of water; it’s very hot and humid in the summer. Take, apply and reapply sunscreen. Wear comfortable shoes. Enjoy the magic that the Atlantis’ atmosphere creates!”
