Four Seasons Scottsdale with Kids (Parent Review)

1. Desert Beauty

Tucked away in North Scottsdale next to Pinnacle Peak Park, the Four Seasons is where to go to escape it all. Even though I live in Scottsdale and regularly hike its plentiful trails, the exquisite landscape at this resort made me fall in love with desert beauty all over again. My family lives less than 30 minutes from this hotel, but we felt worlds away from the stresses of our daily lives here. Don’t think the desert is pretty? I defy you to say that after a stay at Four Seasons Scottsdale at Troon North.

2. Pampered Pool Time

Four Seasons Scottsdale features three pools — a shallow children’s pool, a family pool, and a pool just for grownups. Plus, there’s a whirlpool for soaking. Plan to spend a lot of your time at these watery desert oases during your stay.

Poolside Service

At Four Seasons Scottsdale, you never know when someone will stop by with complimentary homemade chocolate-dipped granola bar bites, frozen grapes, or strawberry smoothies. Need ice water, sunscreen, or a magazine? Just ask! Pool service from Saguaro Blossom restaurant is served to your lounge chair and can be charged to your room, too. And, in the summer on weekends, the resort plays family-friendly movies poolside so you can float while you watch.

Cabanas

What better way to relax than by floating around a pool, tropical beverage in hand? I’ll tell you! Pony up for a private poolside cabana, that’s how! Luxury Cabanas come with a bar filled with waters, sodas, and iced teas. You’ll also get fresh fruits, an Arizona Mai Tai for adults, a selection of board games, reading materials, and more. You can even watch the game (or whatever you like) on a 40-inch flatscreen TV. Or, reserve a Standard Cabana with fewert bells and whistles, but a smaller price tag.

If you want to nab lounge chairs and don’t want to pay the extra bucks for a cabana, your best bet is to hit the pools first thing in the morning. Seats fill up fast. If you want to grab a spot later in the day, find a pool host to help you. You can add your name to the list, and they’ll hook you up once space becomes available.

3. Incredible Restaurants and Bars

Although I enjoyed pretty much everything about our stay at Four Seasons Scottsdale, I loved the food the most of all. Everyone’s food was plate-licking good. (Don’t worry, we didn’t.)

Proof Canteen

In fact, I now have a new favorite restaurant in my hometown: Proof Canteen. The theme here is an all-American road trip into the historic days of Route 66. An indoor shuffleboard table will keep kids busy while parents sip cocktails on the patio. They’re open for breakfast, lunch, and dinner.

On weekends, Proof boasts an impressive brunch buffet with an omelet station, or you can order off the daily breakfast menu. Choose from innovative items like Cowboy Benedict with house-made Spam and country gravy. Or, for a sweet treat, get the Pineapple Upside Down Parfait with caramelized pineapple, stewed cherries, granola, and vanilla yogurt.

In the evenings, Proof offers a set menu plus seasonal, themed dishes. (It was all about peaches during our visit.) My son declared his cheeseburger the best he’s ever eaten, and that’s saying a lot coming from this carnivore. We enjoyed the food and the views of Pinnacle Peak Mountain so much — we invited my parents to join us for a second night here. My House-Smoked New York Strip was just slightly better than the next night’s Shrimp and Grits. Meanwhile, everyone decided the appetizer, Pretzel Knots with Spicy Cheese Sauce, was the winner.

An old-fashioned soda jerk station at Proof Canteen will entice all ages with its array of candy toppings and homemade ice creams. Even though you will likely be stuffed from your meal, try-oh-try to save room for dessert. My son happily slurped up his Cereal Milkshake made with Fruit Loops, Rice Krispies, Frosted Flakes, vanilla ice cream and milk. Additionally, weekly pie selections will tempt even the most stoic of eaters.

Saguaro Blossom

The most affordable restaurant at Four Seasons Scottsdale is the poolside Saguaro Blossom. It’s open for lunch and appetizers 11 am to 5 pm daily. Think light, simple fare like salads and fish tacos.

Talavera Steakhouse and Onyx Bar & Lounge

We didn’t get a chance to sample the offerings at Talavera, the resort’s dinner-only fine-dining modern steakhouse. We did, however, make a point to get drinks and take in the gorgeous sunset views at the Onyx Bar & Lounge. Here you can order small hot and cold bites, plus more substantial Talavera dishes. Live music rotates Friday and Saturday nights between Onyx and Proof. Since Four Seasons is renowned for being kid-friendly, of course, children’s menus are available at all their restaurants.

Room Service

Of course, you could always stay in and order from the extensive room service menu. If you’re in a hurry, then check out their 20 Minute Menu for quick items. You can even order a Brown Bag Lunch if you want to take your meal along on a desert hike.

4. Outdoor Play and Exercise Options

After all that eating, you’re going to want to work off your vacation calories. Thankfully, there are lots of exercise options at Four Seasons Scottsdale.

Hiking

I highly recommend hiking through the Sonoran Desert during your resort stay. You can drive to nearby Pinnacle Peak Park or ask the concierge for easy hiking directions to the trailhead. If going with the kids, then I suggest driving because they might burn out before they even reach the mountain. You can also attend a complimentary guided hike.

Be sure to bring bottled water for everyone and wear sun hats and sunblock. If visiting in the summer, you’ll need to get up early in the morning to enjoy your hike before temperatures rise to 100+ degrees.

Tennis

There are two tennis courts at Four Seasons Scottsdale, as well as group and individual lessons available for a fee. Balls and racquets are free, though.

Golf

Golfers rejoice, for it only takes five minutes to reach the links from this resort. Guests are provided special access to the Troon North Golf Club and its par-71 course.

Fitness Center

The air-conditioned fitness center may be calling your name if it’s too hot to exercise outdoors. Choose from all sorts of modern equipment plus free weights. Bottled water, sports drinks and fresh fruit are available for the taking. Forgot your gym clothes and shoes? You can borrow them at no extra charge! For an additional fee, take a class like yoga, Zumba or T’ai Chi.

5. Kids for All Seasons Kids Club

Take a tour of the Kids for All Seasons at Scottsdale Four Seasons, with my daughter acting as guide in the video below. My tween thought she was too cool for a kids club until she saw this amazing place. Children ages 5 to 12 can play here. Younger children are welcome, too, with a parent or guardian to supervise. What’s more, all of this is provided for free to hotel guests.

6. Luxury Accommodations

No matter the size of your family, you’re sure to find some configuration of rooms that will be comfortable and accommodating at Four Seasons Resort Scottsdale. Casitas are standard luxury hotel rooms. Plus there are one-, two- and three-bedroom suites. Our connecting Casitas were perfect for a family of four, with two queen beds in one room for the kids plus a king-sized bed in the other room for mom and dad. Both featured plush sitting areas, spacious bathrooms, inviting patios, outdoor wood fireplaces, and mini fridges.

7. The Spa at Four Seasons Resort Scottsdale

The upscale Spa at Four Seasons Resort Scottsdale was smaller than expected, and on the particularly busy day that I visited, some guests stood in the relaxation room as they waited for their treatments. Although I was surprised by the lack of a spa pool at a resort of this caliber, there was a sauna and steam room and all of the accouterments you’d need to dress up. Most importantly, my massage was fabulous. What really makes this spa shine is its beautiful Sonoran desert landscaping, views of Pinnacle Peak Mountain, and over-the-top customer service.

Choose from their menu of massages, body treatments, facials, and salon services. Additionally, the Spa at Four Seasons Resort Scottsdale offers treatments just for teens and kids. I bet they’ll love the Bubbly Yummy Pedicure with tootsies soaked in bubbly water, nails trimmed and filed, and then painted in a silly style. 8. Amenities Just for Kids

For families visiting the Valley of the Sun, Four Seasons Scottsdale offers complimentary childproofing items, high chairs, bottle warmers, and playpens…all at no additional charge. You can even ask for baby oil, mild soap, diapers and bottles if you left them behind.

Although my kids are no longer wee enough to need any of these goodies, we did find two adorable kid-sized bathrobes in the closet. Upon check-in, my kids (ages 9 and 12) received a scavenger hunt sheet. After gathering stamps from designated stations from around the resort, they were each treated to a scoop of ice cream at Proof. Pretty sweet!

In addition to the Kids for All Seasons programming available during the day, if you would like a babysitter at night, they’ll hook you up with a sitter within 24 hours notice. (You have to pay the sitter, of course.)

9. Attention to Details and Surprising Value

I had always dreamed of staying at a Four Seasons to experience this luxury brand’s famed attention to detail. I had heard about their amenities for children, like goodie bags at check-in and kid-sized bathrobes. But, I’d never gotten the chance to experience one of their properties until my stay in Scottsdale. After all these years of dreaming of staying at a Four Seasons Resort, my wish finally came true.

Not only did Four Seasons Scottsdale meet my high expectations, but it also exceeded them. It’s expensive, yes. But I was blown away by how many perks are included with a stay. From bottled waters doled out nightly directly to our room, to poolside treats, and even kids club attendance…those fees typically add up quickly during a family vacation but they were all provided free of charge at this hotel.

As for the service, it was impeccable. I don’t think I met one employee who was anything but polite and accommodating. Now I can’t help but dream about which Four Seasons my family should visit next!
