Find Pearls in Oysters for Disney Jewelry (at Home!)

There is something really special about opening an oyster to find your own pearl. It feels magical. You don’t need to be extremely lucky to find your own pearl, either. All you need to do is order a pearl oyster kit from AOS Design. Then, choose one of their gorgeous Disney jewelry designs to show off your treasure. What a unique and whimsical gift to bestow upon a loved one (or keep for yourself)!

Scroll down to watch an instructional video on how to open your oyster and see what it’s like to find your own pearl!

Find Your Own Pearl Kits

AOS Design offers pearl oyster kits similar to those for sale at Akoya Pearls in the Japan Pavilion at EPCOT. But these are delivered right to your house.

The kits include an oyster preserved in alcohol in an easy-to-open pop-top tin can, along with gloves and instructions for opening the mussel. I was pleasantly surprised to find that the oyster did not have any strong odor.

When you open your oyster, you will find your own pearl in one of five colors: white (for wisdom), silver (for success), pink (for health), purple (for wealth) or black (for love). All pearls are fresh water, and not dyed.

Many of AOS Design’s competitors sell oval or baroque pearls. AOS Design’s pearls, however, are round. The more round and lustrous your pearl, the more valuable it is.

Choose Your Pearl Color

Part of the fun of opening an oyster is discovering the color of the pearl. If you have your heart set on a particular color, though, you can forego the oyster and choose your hue. You can purchase whichever pearl color you like besides white.

Personally, I loved the anticipation of opening the mussel myself. I recommend going for the adventure of opening your own oyster to find your own pearl!

Pearl Lockets and Other Disney Jewelry

AOS Design specializes in Disney jewelry including pearl lockets and other pendants, earrings, and rings. For Disney princess lovers, choose from collections based on Cinderella, Aurora, Snow White, and Rapunzel.

For a classic Disney look, go for a Mickey Mouse or Minnie Mouse pearl cage. There’s also a Lion King locket for those of you who want a Hakuna Matata, worry-free type of Disney jewelry.

Cinderella Carriage Pearl Cage and More

When I saw the Cinderella Carriage pearl cage necklace, I just had to have it! I can’t wait to wear it the next time I visit Disneyland. This is one of AOS Design’s most popular pieces, and I can see why.

Cinderella Carriage and Heart Cage earrings will also please followers of this fairy tale. Alternatively, a fairy godmother wand locket or Cinderella’s Castle pendant could house your precious pearl.

Sleeping Beauty and Maleficent Jewelry Options

From Aurora’s collection, choose from cage pendants shaped like a dragon, rose, or crown. These would be perfect for the princess in your life, or a fan of Meleficent.

Snow White and Descendants Jewelry

Fans of Snow White or the Descendants will adore the Red Apple stud earrings, made with shiny red enamel and sparkling Swarovski crystals. Spend an extra few dollars to get the darling apple-shaped gift box. There’s a matching pendant and necklace available, too.

Also in this collection, the Snow White Princess Sword Heart Ring features white and ruby crystals. Get yours plated with 18 karat rose gold (as shown below), or in 925 sterling silver.

Rapunzel’s Jewelry Collection

Rapunzel’s collection focuses on tiara-shaped jewelry. There’s also a pearl cage in a Tangle Sun shape, the emblem in Disney’s Tangled, which was the key to untangling Rapunzel’s past. This pendant would make a fabulous pick not only for a Rapunzel fan but also for eclipse chasers and astrology followers.

Nautical Pearl Cages and Jewelry Designs

If Pirates of the Caribbean or Peter Pan are more your style, check out AOS Design’s Nautical jewelry collection. Think treasure chests, mermaids, and sea stars. There’s even a Jolly Roger pearl cage and a pirate’s hook locket. Yo ho yo ho, it’s a pirate’s life indeed!

Additional AOS Design Pearl Cages

In addition to AOS Design’s incredible Disney collections, they offer dozens of pearl cage designs to suit all sorts of tastes. Take a look at their full catalog to see designs from soccer balls and “best mom” pendants to angels, family trees, animals of all sorts, and more.

Even though we received some sample jewelry pieces for this review, my daughter was so smitten with the options on the AOS Design site that she ordered an adorable unicorn pearl cage with the money I paid her for editing the video below.

What It’s Like to Find Your Own Pearl

Even though I knew there would be a pearl hiding inside my kit from AOS Design, I really did get a thrill from opening the mollusk myself and discovering that shimmering gem. It’s easy to do, too. My 12-year-old easily opened her own oyster after helping me film this video.
