1. The beaches!

Virginia Beach is all about the beach, of course. It's right there in the name! There isn't just one beach, though. Choose from three beaches for your Virginia Beach romantic getaway, each with its own unique vibe and activities. The three-mile boardwalk along Resort Beach would be great for couples who like to be in the heart of the action, with lots of shops, restaurants, live entertainment and hotels. Situated between the Atlantic Ocean and Back Bay Wildlife Refuge,ย Sandbridge Beachย boasts an island feel and plenty of oceanfrontย vacation homes among sand dunes. Expect mellow waters, lots of water sports, and excellent fishing at Chesapeake Bay Beach.

2. Romantic dining in Virginia Beach

Holding hands across the table, a shared appetizer, toasting your love…a Virginia Beach romantic getaway requires memorable dining experiences. Commune servesย sustainable breakfast fare made from ingredients in their own 2,000-square-foot on-site garden.ย Terrapin Restaurant gets high marks for the romantic ambiance and truffle macaroni and cheese. For an intimate experience in an 1860s farmhouse, make a reservation at the renowned Cellars Restaurant for French Country cuisine with a Southern flair.ย Hungry for more? 3. Outdoor adventures for couples

Spending timeย in nature can bring couples closer, especially whenย trying something new together. Thankfully Virginia Beach offers all sorts of outdoorsyย things to do.

The Adventure Park at Virginia Aquarium‘s Aerial Forest Adventure is the largest forest climbing park in Virginia, withย 21 zip lines, 6 difficulty levels, and almost 200 challenge bridges. What a way to get our hearts pumping!

Kayaking in Virginia Beach sounds tempting, too. According to VisitVirginiaBeach.com, “The miles of waterways take the form of rivers, bays, lakes, marsh areas and fingers of water that all flow into the Atlantic Ocean and Chesapeake Bay. One of the best ways to experience this jewel is by kayak.”

We have fond memories of riding horse on the beachย during our honeymoon, so for sure we'd want to saddle up with Virginia Beach Horseback. It's one of the only beach horseback riding services in the U.S.

I'd love to go stand up paddle boarding inย Virginia Beach with my husband as a way to get out on the water and enjoy the scenery. Plus, it's a great coreย workout and I wouldn't mind if we both got six-pack abs. (A girl can dream!)

For hikers like us,ย First Landing State Park near Chesapeake Bay sounds divine with itsย 19 trails that cover more than 19 miles. There's also swimming, biking, boating and fishing in the park.

Golfing couples will be happy to know there are 198 holes of golf in Virginia Beach. Check out the incredible Virginia Beach Golf Vacation Packages.

Burn off some that delicious Virginia Beach food with a climbย to the top of Cape Henry Lighthouse, one of the oldest surviving lighthouses in the U.S. (What is it about lighthouses that makes them so romantic?!)

4. Couple's spa day for a Virginia Beach romantic getaway

A couple's spa treatmentย is just what the marriage counselor ordered! Don a fluffy robe with your sweetheartย and let the worries of the world float away at the hands of a professional masseuse or aesthetician.ย Choose from several spas and treatments in Virginia Beach.ย The Stress-Fix Aroma Massage at the Best Body Co. sounds like the solution for frazzledย couples. It combines Swedish and deep tissue massage, acupressure, and foot reflexology; and itย includes a take-home aromatherapy fragrance.

5. For the love of nightlifeย

We don't get out a lot anymore. But if we embarked on a Virginia Beach romantic getaway, my husband and I would get out there and play the night away! Fromย live comedy and brew pubs to dance clubs and karaoke, Virginia Beach gives you a reason to stay out past your bedtime. Choose fromย live music, top comedians, musicals and more. For wine lovers, the Sonoma Wine Bar & Bistro sounds particularly appealing! Top off your night withย a moonlit stroll along the beach. Read more about Virginia Beach's nightlife.

Sigh…Virginia Beach sounds dreamy, doesn't it?
