When packing for any trip, I try to plan out my fashions carefully for each day and select versatile travel clothing that can be worn more than once. Especially when traveling with children, baggage fees can add up quickly so it's important to pack wisely. The Chrysalis Cardi by Encircled is the most versatile travel garment I've ever seen.

Made from eco-conscious fabric, the Chrysalis Cardi can be worn an impressive eight different ways. From scarf, to shirt, to dress, to cape…this unique garment has got you covered. It comes with a Lookbook to help create all of the different fashions, with step-by-step instructions and explanatory photos.

The Chrysalis Cardi Look

The namesake style, the Chrysalis Cardi look is comfy and stylish. At first I was confused about how to create this style, but after I figured it out, it seemed like a no-brainer. To make things easier for you, I shot a video showing how to make this iconic, cocoon-style cardigan.

Chrysalis Cardi by Encircled - Look 2: The Double Loop Scarf

The Double Loop Scarf

The Double Loop Scarf Look

After I lived in France for one year during college, my sister asked me if I was going to be one of “those” people who wears scarves after living in Europe. The answer? Yes, I sure was! Europeans have long known what we Americans finally seem to have grasped: scarves are an easy way to transform an outfit from bland to bling! This timeless, classic infinity scarf is an easy way to complete your outfit. I love the idea of throwing on this look before boarding an airplane and then wrapping up in the garment to stay warm when temperature drop in the air, rather than using one of those germ-ridden airline-provided blankets.

Whether you live in a chilly locale or you're headed somewhere with cool temperatures, the Triple Loop Scarf will keep you warm. What a stylish way to stay toasty on a fall walk in the woods!

Travel Tunic Dress by Encircled

The Grecian Tunic Look

The Grecian Tunic Look

The Grecian Tunic could be worn shorter over a pair of leggings or longer as a dress, as I did above.  Add a fun, jeweled necklace for a night out on the town. I suggest clasping the snaps around your bra straps to keep the tunic sleeves from dropping down. This look is created using a tie sash, which is included with your Chrysalis Cardi purchase.

Travel Cape by Encircled

The Cape Look

The Cape Look

I love this look, especially for traveling moms who are still nursing a baby. This cozy draped poncho would double nicely as a nursing cover on an airplane or while out exploring museums and other sites.

In addition to the five looks I've modeled here, you can also form your Chrysalis Cardi into a simple Big Loop Scarf, a One-shoulder Dress, and an X-Back Halter shirt. Watch this video by Encircled about how to create any of the eight looks.

  1. First off- you make a good model! And secondly that’s pretty cool. The game changer for me was when it turned into a dress!

    • Colleen Lanin, The Travel Mama says:

Hilarye – It really is pretty impressive all of the different looks that can be made from that simple garment!

    • H Hillarye!

We often get people when we do shows/events…. who doubt that the scarf is ACTUALLY a dress. Definitely a fun moment when you walk out in it….:)

      Cheers!

  3. That is SO CUTE. It looks fantastic!

  4. Colleen, you look fabulous in every look. Love it! What a brilliant idea.

    • Colleen Lanin, The Travel Mama says:

Thank you, Beth. 🙂 I especially love this garment for new moms (like you will soon be!)—makes an easy and stylish nursing cover!

  5. Alanna Wargula says:

I love this idea ! Thank you! Which color are you wearing in the Grecian tunic pic?

    • Colleen Lanin, The Travel Mama says:

Alanna – I believe my Chrysalis Cardi is Charcoal. All of the pictures (including the Grecian tunic) are of the same garment!

  6. I purchased the black Chrysalis Cardi for an upcoming backpacking trip to Europe with my husband. I thought I had found the perfect travel piece when I watched the videos about the 8 ways you could wear it. When I received the package in the mail I was excited to open it up and try it on. After trying the 8 ways to wear in the comfort of my home, I found it to be irritating, and annoying having to re-adjust the fabric loop for it to stay in place – and the snaps will come undone with any slight movement – not good for wearing as a dress! I determined that it wasn’t the answer to my search for a perfect convertible travel piece and promptly wrapped it back up in the tissue paper it came with and prepared the box for shipping. After spending $15 to ship it back to Canada, and it sitting in their facility for 5 business days before it was processed for return, I received an email saying that it was returned “covered in oil spots” and had “several small pulls in the fabric” and wouldn’t be returned. Now tell me how that would be possible after quickly trying it on at home and then packaging it back up. If you buy this, don’t expect to return it.

    • Regan,

Thanks for your comment. As per our email sent a few days ago, despite receiving the garment back damaged and in unsellable condition, we refunded your money in full.

Our Returns facility is a secure, temperature controlled environment in which packages sit unopened until they can be inspected by our team at our Headquarters. It is not our policy to pay shipping back for any returns, which is clearly stated on our website.

I am truly sorry the experience did not meet your expectations and wish you all the best in your search for the perfect travel gear.

      Best,
      Kristi

    • I too spent $15.50 to return items back to Canada and it was returned back to me!! USPS did their job but Canada did not deliver it so it was returned back to me. To re mail it by registered was about $40.00 and express was $41.00. They wanted to give me a store credit for the shipping of 15.50 and 40.00 = 55.50.
Yes – I absolutely agree – don’t expect to return it.
      Poor customer service!!!!!

      • Hello Kerrie,

        Thanks for your feedback!

As per our email conversation last week we too are disappointed and confused as to why your return was returned to sender. This is a highly irregular and rare occurrence for us. We highly recommend you contact USPS about this and speak with their customer service as they are the ones who provided you with the initial service. You may even be able to get your original postage refunded through USPS.

Unfortunately we will require you to re-mail your return to us, in order to process a refund. Our returns policy doesn’t cover return shipping however we do offer a return shipping store credit in the amount paid. This information and our policies can always be found on our website. Tracked packet is fine, which only costs $15.50.

Again, we apologize for the postal service mishap and look forward to resolving this issue for you as soon as possible.

        Best,

        Brittany
