1. Warner Bros. Studio Tour

Burbank is home to hundreds of major film and television studios, including Walt Disney Studios, Universal Studios Hollywood, and Warner Bros. Studio.

On the Warner Bros. Studio Tour, a knowledgeable guide will drive your small tour group around the lot in an open-air vehicle, pointing out sound stages where shows like Euphoria and Night Court are recorded. You’ll also see outdoor sets for movies like La La Land and tv shows like Gilmore Girls.

Superhero Exhibits

Superhero fans will enjoy wandering through DC Universe: The Exhibit, where elaborate costumes are on display — like the one made for Jason Momoa’s Aquaman and Gal Gadot’s Wonder Woman. Meanwhile, Harry Potter enthusiasts will be pleased to see memorabilia, such as the wand and glasses of the Boy Who Lived.

Then you’ll visit a whole room filled with Batmobiles. You can even turn on the Bat Signal!

Photo Ops

The tour concludes with photo ops in the Big Bang Theory apartment and hallway, as well as the permanent Friends set. Pose at both for souvenir photos. If you like your movies and TV shows served with a side of amusement park rides and live shows, then Universal Studios Hollywood is an absolute must during your Burbank vacation. Not only is this attraction a full-fledged theme park, but also it is a real-life movie-producing studio.

Wizarding World of Harry Potter

The Wizarding World of Harry Potter is the most alluring area of Universal Studios Hollywood for many visitors, super fans or not. Elaborately themed and amazingly accurate Hogwarts and Diagon Alley displays, shops, and rides will amaze any Potterhead. Invest in a wand from Ollivanders to make magical displays come to life.

Super Nintendo World

The newest edition to Universal Studios Hollywood was inspired by Mario, Princess Peach, and Luigi of the popular video game, Mario Kart. Super Nintendo World opened in February of 2023.

Gamers enjoy Mushroom Kingdom-themed shopping, dining, and rides in this land. Similar to the wands in the Wizarding World, the purchase of wearable Power-Up Bands brings Super Nintendo World and other areas of the park to life.

The star attraction is the Mario Kart Browser’s Challenge ride. It fuses cutting-edge augmented reality (via AR goggles) with mapping technology and actual set pieces along a moving ride track.

Studio Tour

Movie buffs will want to queue up for Universal’s famous Studio Tour. You’ll see actual sets on movie lots from films like Back to the Future, Jurassic Park, and Dr. Seuss’ How the Grinch Stole Christmas.

Live Entertainment

Watch live entertainment at Universal Studios Hollywood as well. WaterWorld is an intense show featuring jet ski stunts and a simulated seaplane crash. Meanwhile, Universal’s Animal Actors production stars famous critters showcasing their tricks and animal antics.

3. Universal CityWalk

Just outside Universal Studios Hollywood is Universal CityWalk. This dining, shopping, and entertainment complex is a fun addition to a day at the amusement park.

But also, Universal CityWalk is a destination unto itself. You can listen to live music at a variety of venues, play miniature golf at Hollywood Drive-In Golf, or sing your heart out with a real band at Rising Star. Or, just walk around taking in all the colorful sights and tempting flavors.

Voodoo Doughnut

Topping my family’s must-do list at Universal CityWalk is always Voodoo Doughnut. Here you can buy donuts in flavors like Voodoo Bubble (topped with bubble gum dust and a real piece of Dubble Bubble gum) or the Bacon Maple Bar (coated with maple frosting and bits of bacon).

The Toothsome Chocolate Emporium & Savory Feast Kitchen

Another fan favorite is The Toothsome Chocolate Emporium & Savory Feast Kitchen. Sit down here for American fare like salads and burgers. But the real reason to come here? Jacques’ Specialty Shakes!

4. Guided Walt Disney Studios Tour

Mickey Mouse was born at Burbank’s Walt Disney Studios. The iconic character was dreamed up by Walt here in Burbank, not Anaheim. Now in its third location in the city, this movie studio is the only major Hollywood studio in Burbank that does not host regularly scheduled tours to the public.

Super fans hankering to visit can pay for a rare tour as a member of the D23 Fan Club. The upscale Adventures by Disney also offers a Walt Disney Studios tour as part of its Southern California Adventures by Disney tour. Additionally, Disney Movie Insiders offers a Walt Disney Studios Disney Private Tour for Up to 8, available for purchase via a slew of points earned through the purchase of eligible movie tickets, video games, and more.

Lucky visitors will visit Legends Plaza. That’s where they’ll see the famous statue of Walt holding Mickey’s hand. There’s also a bench featuring statues of Minnie Mouse and Disney.

Tour takers also view the Disney Team Building. It’s “held up” by the Seven Dwarfs, with Dopey at the vertex of the triangular-peaked structure.

According to Week 99er, Walt Disney Studios guests also get a chance to visit the Cast Store to shop for some of the latest Disney merchandise, exclusive pins, and discounted items.

5. Downtown Burbank

Downtown Burbank boasts more than 600 shops, restaurants, and activities. It spans San Fernando Boulevard from the Burbank Town Center shopping mall to North America’s largest IKEA.

Movie Theaters in Burbank

In a small town known as a big player in the film industry, you may want to visit one of Burbank’s movie theaters during your vacation. Burbank boasts 30 movie screens, ranking among the highest-attended theaters in the U.S. Burbank Town Center offers 14 screens in two different AMC Movie Theatres. Meanwhile, AMC Burbank 16 is home to even more movies for your watching pleasure.

Urban Press Winery

Be sure to stop by Urban Press Winery for a tasting flight or glass of wine. Even teetotalers will appreciate a meal or charcuterie board in their elegant dining room or on their darling Italian garden-inspired patio.

Downtown Burbank Arts Festival

6. Magnolia Park

Also worth visiting is Magnolia Park, a charming section of Burbank just minutes from the downtown area. Along Magnolia Boulevard, you’ll find boutique stores, vintage clothing shops, and antique stores. You may also spot food trucks parked in this part of town.

Palm Coffee Bar

Magnolia Park is known for its abundance of cute and quirky coffee shops. Of particular note is the Palm Coffee Bar. This Instagram-worthy destination features plentiful live plants, pink décor, a disco ball, and a fun vibe. Expect high-quality coffees, teas, and delicious fresh-baked treats that would rival any local bakeries.

Chandler Bikeway

Outdoorsy folks will enjoy Chandler Bikeway in Magnolia Park. The urban bike path replaced railroad tracks that once ran through the area. This paved trail stretches over 2.8 miles and typically takes a little over 1.5 hours to complete out and back by bicycle. Rent bicycles from Cycle X, a short drive away in Hollywood. Skateboarders, rollerbladers, and walkers are welcome to enjoy this easy path, too.

7. Hollywood Sign

The Hollywood Sign represents the California dream of the success, fame, and glamour associated with the entertainment industry. It’s in the Hollywood Hills area of the Santa Monica Mountains but Burbank boasts some of the best views of the famous sign.

Hollywood Sign Horseback Trail Ride

Even better, pony up for a horseback trail ride to the Hollywood Sign. This two-hour tour passes through the beautiful hills of Griffith Park. Talk about a memorable way to experience this world-renowned symbol of Tinseltown!

8. Griffith Park

Nearby Griffith Park is a great place to see the Hollywood Sign. This famous sign can be viewed from several trails within the park but if sign sightings are really what you seek, then drive to the top to take in the spectacular view near Griffith Observatory.

This 4,210-acre park is where you will find the Griffith Observatory, the Samuel Oschin Planetarium, the Autry Museum of the American West, and the Los Angeles Zoo.

Additionally, Griffith Park makes a great place to explore outdoor activities. In fact, it is home to 53 acres of hiking trails. You can rent surreys and bicycles from Spokes N Stuff within the park, too. Kids will also love playgrounds like Shane’s Inspiration in the center of the park near the Merry Go Round and the Neil Papiano Play Park. Picnic tables are plentiful in the park as well.

Griffith Park Merry Go Round

Get a glimpse of the sweet green space in Burbank that inspired Walt Disney to build his first theme park. Griffith Park is where Disney brought his children to play on weekends when they were young.

Legend has it that while sitting on a bench watching his girls ride the Griffith Park Merry Go Round, Disney decided to build a large-scale amusement center where the whole family could have fun. Built in 1926, the carousel is composed of 68 handmade horses that jump. You can still buy tickets for a pony ride today.

9. Hollywood Walk of Fame

Of course, you will want to take a stroll on the Hollywood Walk of Fame during your visit to Burbank. It’s located on Hollywood Blvd from Gower to La Brea and on Vine Street from Sunset to Yucca in the next-door neighbor, Hollywood. This 1.3-mile path features the most iconic names in entertainment on over 2,700 stars.

Stars represent six categories on this famous path: Film, Television, Radio, Theater, Music, and Special. Examples of “Special” stars are Victoria’s Secret Angels and the 1969 Apollo Moon Landing.

Some of the most famous stars to search for are Marilyn Monroe, Walt Disney, Michael Jackson, and Bruce Lee. If visiting Burbank with kids, then family favorites on the Hollywood Walk of Fame include Mickey Mouse, The Simpsons, and Snoopy. Meanwhile, the name you are most likely to spot is Gene Autry — the only celebrity awarded five stars for all main categories.

10. Los Angeles Zoo

A visit to the Los Angeles Zoo makes an educational and entertaining addition to any Burbank getaway. The 133-acre non-profit zoo is home to 2,200+ mammals, birds, amphibians, and reptiles. Animal shows and zookeeper talks add to the fun.

In addition to residents like gorillas, koalas, and lions — the zoo’s beautiful botanical gardens alone warrant a stop here. Children will want to take a spin on their Conservation Carousel, too.

LA Zoo Lights

If visiting in winter, be sure to attend the dazzling nighttime LA Zoo Lights. There are huge glowing animal-shaped holiday lights displays, a walk-through Twinkle Tunnel, and even a water and laser show. Zoo Lights typically runs from the end of November through early January. Tickets can be purchased in person or in advance online.

11. Martial Arts History Museum

The Martial Arts History Museum celebrates karate and kung fu to kickboxing and beyond. Discover the history of martial arts and its influence on society and film.

Learn about other aspects of Asian culture as well, including anime, manga, Chinese lion dancing, Japanese operas, and more. The small Martial Arts Museum in Burbank only takes about an hour to explore.

12. Live Television Show Taping

When visiting the Media Capital of the World, it’s super fun to view a live television taping. Plan ahead, though, because most shows require advance reservations. Typically, you can get tickets 30 days beforehand, with the most popular programs booking up on the first day of release.

The Jennifer Hudson Show is taped in front of live audiences at the Warner Bros. Studio in the city of Burbank. Previously, Conan and The Ellen DeGeneres Show were both taped at this studio, too.

Johnny Carson, Jay Leno, and Conan O’Brien all filmed The Tonight Show at NBC Studios in Burbank. If you want to see Jimmy Fallon, however, you’ll have to fly to New York City to watch this famous live show in person.

13. Celebrity Homes Tour

Get a glimpse of the glamorous life during a Guided Celebrity Homes Tour of Burbank, Hollywood, Beverly Hills, and beyond. An entertaining tour guide will point out such sites as celebrity hangouts, landmarks (like the Hollywood Sign and the TCL Chinese Theater), and extravagant properties owned by the rich and famous. Who knows? You might even spot your favorite movie star!

14. Descanso Gardens

For a beautiful and peaceful place to stroll, head to the nearby Descanso Gardens. This 150-acre space features several themed botanical gardens, including a Rose Garden, Japanese Garden, Oak Forest, California Natives Garden, and more.

Those visiting Burbank with kids should make a point to see the Enchanted Railroad. This 1/8th-scale replica of a diesel train chugs through a section of the gardens.

15. Oldest Bob’s Big Boy

Slide into a booth at the oldest remaining Bob’s Big Boy in Burbank’s Media District. Order American standards Original Double-Deck Hamburger and a thick milkshake. Then, you must pose next to the trademark chubby boy statue in his red-and-white checkered overalls.

This restaurant was built in 1949 and has been designated as a Point of Historical Interest by the State of California. Plus, every Friday night, Bob’s hosts a Classic Car Show.

16. Starlight Bowl

Summer is concert season at Burbank’s Starlight Bowl. The outdoor amphitheater can seat 5,000 people in backed chairs and on its grassy lawn.

It may not be as big or as well-known as the Hollywood Bowl, but the Starlight Bowl is much more affordable and easier to nab tickets! Cover bands and well-known artists like Kenny G and Air Supply perform here at a fraction of the cost of larger concert venues.

Purchase snacks and drinks on-site, including wine and beer, or pack your own picnic basket. With lawn tickets, you’ll want to bring a blanket (or hotel towels) to sit on.

17. Griffith Observatory

Lauded as one of the best observatories in the world by Smithsonian Magazine and other reputable sources, the Griffith Observatory is a notable attraction near Burbank. Perched on Mount Hollywood in Griffith Park, Griffith Observatory wows visitors with its planetarium, high-powered telescopes for public use, and space exhibits.

One Saturday per month, Griffith Observatory hosts Star Parties. These events provide a free opportunity for the public to gaze at the cosmos through high-powered telescopes.

18. Los Angeles Equestrian Center

Horse lovers will appreciate the Los Angeles Equestrian Center within Griffith Park. Polo matches as well as Western and English horse shows are held here throughout the year. The center also offers horseback riding lessons with professional trainers.

In conjunction with the Rose Bowl, the Tournament of Roses EquestFest is held here each January. It stars the graceful horses and talented riders that appear in the famous Rose Parade. They perform roping, dressage, jumps, and other tricks in the center’s 3,500-seat Equidome.

19. Animal Walk of Fame

Situated in front of the Burbank Animal Shelter, animal lovers can view the TV and Movie Animal Walk of Fame. Look for furry and feathered animal celebrity paw, claw, and hoof prints from the 1950s and 1960s.

The cement slabs on the front lawn are not extensive, but they are impressive with household name canines represented like Benji, Lassie, and the Shaggy Dog. You’ll also find Francis the Talking Mule, Jackie the lion, and Samantha the goose, among others.

20. Flappers Comedy Club

Get your live entertainment fix in Burbank at Flappers Comedy Club and Restaurant. In addition to hilarity, you’ll find a full bar, á la carte food menu, and three-course prix-fixe menu.

Located so close to Los Angeles, this venue draws a lot of celebrity talent. Famous comedians like Kevin Hart, Taylor Tomlinson, Gabriel Iglesias, Whitney Cummings, and Adam Sandler have performed here.

Families will be happy to know that kid-friendly shows are presented at Flappers every Saturday afternoon. These feature a Two Milk Minimum Menu. Order favorites like burgers and pizza as well as mocktails like Shirley Temples and Roy Rogers.
