Jet-setting around the world is not a requirement for a couple's getaway. Sometimes, all it takes is finding a romantic place right in your own hometown. A short local getaway can be the perfect relationship pick-me-up. Many hotels offer romance or couples' getaway packages year-round. This is a great way to take advantage of all the amenities a hotel as to offer, as most of these packages include spa treatments and other fun couples' activities like golf and dining. I'm dreaming of a romantic getaway with my husband at the Sheraton Carlsbad Resort and Spa. The resort is only ten minutes from our house, but that's enough distance to make my daily cares feel miles away.

Date Night at Sheraton's Twenty/20 Grill

Sheraton's Twenty/20 Grill is a wonderful spot for date night for hotel guests and other diners. The restaurant recently underwent a massive patio renovation as well as a menu overhaul. The new menu is designed to capture the flavors of San Sebastian.

The patio is incredible – a massive, yet somehow cozy, outdoor space. Much of the outdoor area is covered by a gorgeous wood ceiling and chandeliers that create a romantic feel after dark.

We ate under the stars and stayed warm despite the chilly night with the help of their ample and powerful heat lamps. I tend to be cold even on warmer evenings, but I was very comfortable on the Twenty/20 patio during an unusually cold San Diego winter.

For starters, we sampled the flash fried shishito peppers as well as a frisee and arugula salad. Our server described the shishito peppers as “the ultimate munchie” and he couldn't have been more spot on. I'd never had these Japanese chili peppers before, but these goodies, served with Romesco sauce and sprinkled with salt, were addictive.

I chose the Rioja-braised short rib and my husband ordered the filet mignon for our main course. Both were delicious. The portions are smaller than you'd experience at a traditional chophouse, but after two starters, our entrees were plenty filling.

Our server then brought out dessert—a tower of six mini-desserts. I was in sweet tooth heaven: creme brulee, tiramisu, carrot cake, raspberry mousse, chocolate mousse, and cheesecake. I'm typically not a fan of creme brulee, but Twenty/20 may have made me a permanent convert.
