As a Disneyland-loving mom, I have perused the selection of Good Neighbor Hotels in Anaheim almost obsessively. Of these Disney-recommended hotels, I have always wanted to stay at the Residence Inn Anaheim Maingate during one of my family’s numerous trips to Disneyland and Disney’s California Adventure parks. I finally got my chance to do just that.

Residence Inn is one of my favorite hotel brands for traveling families. With the extra room the suites provide, the full-sized in-suite kitchens, and the complimentary breakfast—what’s not to love? Plus, you can easily walk to the Disney parks from the Residence Inn Anaheim Maingate.

If you’re traveling with kids, I recommend booking a one- or two-bedroom suite instead of a studio. Having a separate bedroom for parents and children allows for a little grown-up time after the kids go to bed. Enjoy a glass of wine together on the balcony or patio, chat for a bit, or even make room for a little romance while on family vacation.

Children will enjoy the complimentary breakfast at Residence Inn Anaheim. There’s something about make-your-own waffles that screams, “Vacation!” If waffles aren’t your thing, you can choose from the usual suspects: eggs, sausage, cereals, and the like.

Another travel tip I often give to parents is to stagger busy days and relaxed days on vacation. After visiting with Disney characters, riding Space Mountain and watching the Enchanted Tiki Room, the kids (and you!) will need some downtime. The Residence Inn Anaheim offers a pleasant pool for splashy fun and a hot tub for soaking those amusement park-weary feet. For young children, the on-site playground offers a respite from the hyper-stimulation of the Disney parks. Meanwhile, older kids will dig playing basketball or volleyball on the sports court.

There is more to Anaheim than Disney, of course. During your stay at the Residence Inn Anaheim Maingate, make time to visit the Orange County attractions beyond Disneyland. Check out the Orange County Balloon for an uplifting and free experience. For your nature fix, head to Irvine Regional Park for pony rides for horse back riding, bicycle and surrey rentals, paddle boating and more. Or, explore one of California’s best beaches.

A Note from The Travel Mama: My family was hosted by Residence Inn. All opinions are my own, as always.

Thanks Colleen for the pictures and the review. My husband and I were contemplating if we would stay at the Disney California Resort Hotel or one of the other hotels around Disneyland. The hotels around the area can look a little “questionable” from the outside, if you catch my drift.
He is all about comfort & quality and I’m all about just having a nice, clean place to crash after a long day at Disneyland. Yes, the Disneyland Resort Hotel would be fabulous but I think this Residence Inn looks like we would have all the comforts of being at home without over doing it on the budget.

  2. We’ve stayed here too! Love how close it is to Disney and the included breakfast makes the morning so much easier.

  3. A really comfortable place to stay with kids !!!
