5 Fun Phoenix Girlfriend Getaway Activities

In winter months, Canadians flock to Arizona like Real Housewives to Botox. Yet I, The Saucy Travel Mama and hater of Canadian winters, had never had the pleasure. I finally got my desert detox during a pilgrimage to this legendary region known for its restorative nature. I’ve sussed out the best activities in the greater Phoenix area for a group of gals. If you’re looking to reconnect your friends, the Sonoran Desert region is a worthy spot. Here are five fun activities in Phoenix for a girlfriend trip that is sure to please your besties.

1. Explore the Sonoran Desert.

The Sonoran Desert is the most biologically diverse desert on the planet. What’s more, there are four Regional Parks within 45 minutes of Phoenix.

You’ll find over 20 trails to explore at Usery Mountain Regional Park. If you happen to have kids with you, you’ll find two covered play structures as well. The Wind Cave Trail is an easy hike that’s studded with those iconic saguaro cacti.

Best to start your hike with a spot of yoga at the Visitor’s Center, as I did. There’s something about pairing your “Om,” with the tranquil chirping of desert quail.

Classes led by certified instructors suit all abilities. (Mine was Misty Campeau of Inner Vision Yoga.) Getting a mindful workout in a stunning location just might have been the highlight of my girlfriend trip in Phoenix.

2. Shop and nosh.

There are plenty of malls to tempt your wallet around Phoenix, but Biltmore Fashion Park has my heart. This luxury shopping destination boasts shaded, flower-filled walkways that lead to sublime shops. Think Saks, Ralph Lauren, and BCBG.

For lunch, True Food Kitchen‘s super healthy AND tasty restaurant is a revelation. Their proteins are all raised naturally without additives. And their organic produce is guided by the wisdom of the Environmental Working Group.

3. Sip Afternoon Tea…or Cocktails.

Taking time for tea is a tradition we ought to restore. At the Ritz-Carlton, Phoenix you’ll find a proper English cuppa in addition to signature blends. This afternoon tea service is a real treat, and not just because they serve tea-infused vodka cocktails.

After receiving your own full pot (of tea, not vodka), you’ll be able to sample a variety of tea sandwiches. Then comes a tiered tray brimming with petit fours, tarts, and mini cheesecakes.

But wait, there’s more! Scones fresh out of the oven are the final piece de resistance with whipped cream, jam and lemon curd served in chocolate cups.

4. Get Balanced.

Anyone concerned about their health and interested in whole plant natural medicine needs to make a beeline to SW Herb (also located in Mesa). It’s a retail store, but it’s so much more than that.

Their focus is on education and the art of herbal healing. They offer space for massage therapists, reiki and chakra balancing practitioners, in addition to a myriad of classes. Do as I did and bring your list of ailments so you can walk out with a specially formulated tea or tincture to set you straight.

5. Book a Phoenix Girlfriend Getaway Spa Day.

What’s a girl’s weekend without a spa day? A failure, that’s what. You don’t need to stay at a fancy resort to get pampered either. Fuchsia day spa in Mesa is a playful paradise to call your own.

The vibe is young, fun, and refreshing. Roll in here for the usual suspects: massage, facial, mani-pedi…or get a blowout at their new dry bar.

I opted for a massage and was impressed by two things. First, my tiny masseuse whipped my knots out. She was skilled with a capital S. Second, it’s totally affordable with the value ratio definitely in your favor.
