Park City, Utah Snow Activities for the Whole Family

I’ve been dreaming of experiencing Park City, Utah’s snow activities for years. My family doesn’t get to play in snow much. We live in sunny Arizona but we love skiing, snow tubing, snowball fights and pretty much all things snowy. So I was thrilled when my two kids, my parents, my husband and I packed up every piece of warm clothing we own and headed to Utah to check out Park City’s two world-class ski resorts.

Skiing Deer Valley

I fell in love with skiing in Park City, Utah. I’ve been skiing before but I never felt comfortable in my boots. I always felt scared and uneasy – like I was trying to have someone else’s fun. This time, I relaxed into it and found my skiing groove.

Deer Valley Resort, one of three ski-only resorts in the country, is just one portion of the many Park City snow activities. We hadn’t skied for a few years so lessons for the whole family at Deer Valley were a must. Our instructor, Kristine, was so patient and sweet. She put us all at ease.

We started with getting used to the equipment, climbing up inclines with our skis perpendicular to the slope, and practicing making big pizza slices with our skis. Then it was time to step onto the magic carpet to reach the top of the bunny hill. Before long, my 10-year-old daughter and 7-year-old son were bombing down the kiddie slopes, no poles needed.

My husband and I went further up the mountain to swoosh through the snow. It’s amazing how muscle memory kicks in!

Skiing and Snowboarding at Park City Mountain

In December 2015, Park City Mountain Resort, celebrated the grand opening of the new Quicksilver Gondola and Miners Camp Restaurant, making history as the largest ski and snowboard resort in the United States. Last season, Vail Resorts acquired Park City Mountain Resort and has since invested $50 million in improvements. Canyons Resorts and Park City Mountain now operate under the one name of Park City Mountain Resort.

Guests visiting Park City Mountain Resort have access to over 300 trails, 41 lifts and 7,300 acres of skiable terrain. A local advised me that Harmony is their longest and most mellow run. I can’t wait to come back and give it a try. Of course, there are plenty of black diamond runs for you more adventurous skiers and boarders, too!

Snow Tubing and More at Gorgoza Park

It’s hard to find a more joyous multigenerational vacation activity than snow tubing. At Gorgoza Park, give your skiing and boarding legs a break and use the lift to reach the top of the tubing hills. Tubing solo is fun, but it’s even more fun to link up tubes with family members and zoom down together. Just grab a hold of each other’s snow tube straps and get a push to start flying down one of the Gorgoza’s seven tubing lanes. Even little ones as young as 3 (and 42″ tall) can get in on the fun.

Children ages 6 to 12 can get their little hearts racing aboard mini snowmobiles at Gorgoza Park. For a more mellow activity, Fort Frosty for children under age 8, features an adorable tubing carousel.

Getting Geared Up in Park City, Utah

Need ski gear? You’ll be pampered at Banhof Sport, a family owned and operated ski shop on Main Street. Ryan, the owner, led our family through the store, patiently outfitting us with everything from cozy winter hats to moisture-wicking socks. Their knowledgeable staff helped us pick out every layer for all family members before we got sized for our rental skis, boots and helmets.

Snowball Fights, Snow Angels and Snowmen

My children took every opportunity to romp, play and make angels in the snow. Spur of the moment snowball fights kept us on our toes throughout our ski vacation. Although the snow was too powdery for snowman building (but great for skiing!), that didn’t stop my desert kiddos from attempting to make a Frosty whenever they could.

No matter your skiing or boarding level – Park City, Utah makes an incredible multigenerational vacation destination.
