There's always so much to purchase and pack before any big family vacation: snacks, travel toys, medicines, and more. If only there was a place where we could purchase all of these items in one easy shopping trip. Maybe somewhere with wide aisles, good prices, pleasant displays and red carts. Oh yes, there is such a heavenly place for busy traveling parents…Target! Here are my favorite innovative travel products for kids at Target. (Brought to you in partnership with Target and Pampers.)

Innovative Travel Products for Kids

My family never embarks on any vacation without first picking up a new Crayola Color Wonder kit for each kid. This innovative product allows kids to color to their hearts' content without parents worrying their tots will wind up rainbow-striped because Color Wonder markers only show up on Crayola's special paper. Children can choose from all sorts of characters like Disney Princesses, Spiderman or Dora the Explorer. Other fun variations include glittery images, neon colors or metallic paper. I like this Color & Go starter kit since it comes with a portable lap desk plus marker storage for traveling artists.

Rather than re-packing medicines before each trip, store a stash of travel cough medicines, ointments, bandages and tummy soothers zipped up in a Ziploc bag. Before each family vacation, check expiration dates and replenish any items that are running low. I especially like these Ziploc Slider Bags with Smart Zip technology, which ensures your clothing and other suitcase items won't get messy if there's a spill in-transit. I always pack a few extras in my luggage to bring home wet swimsuits or liquid souvenirs.

One of the best ways to keep kids happy during a long flight or road trip is to provide them with snacks…lots and lots of snacks. Chewing mouths are too busy to whine, “Are we there yet?” I love the Munchkin Click Lock Deluxe Snack Catcher for toddlers because they can reach their chubby fists into the bowl to grab a bunch of goodies without spilling them all over. The lockable lid ensures the snackies won't dump into your diaper bag either.

After my daughter's recent bout of Noro virus on a cruise, I vowed to always pack Clorox wipes with us from then on. Thank goodness Clorox thought to make this handy travel version. Use these to wipe down germ-ridden hazards when traveling, from the tray table and armrests on the airplane to the remote control, telephone and doorknobs in your hotel room.

Clorox Disinfecting Wipes are a must for staying germ-free when traveling!

If traveling with a baby or toddler, don't forget to bring a portable baby bath tub along. The Munchkin White Hot Inflatable Safety Duck Tub is awesome because it packs easily into your luggage when deflated. Plus it boasts a safety monitor button that turns red to let parents know if the water is too hot for baby's sensitive skin.

Crayola's Washable Triangular Crayons are the best thing since, well, round crayons. Their angled shape means they won't roll off the tray table aboard the plane or lap table in the car.

Crayola's triangular crayons don't roll - perfect for travel!

If traveling with a newly potty trained toddler, I suggest purchasing a pack of Pampers Easy Ups for the journey, even if you've transitioned to underpants at home. You never know when you might get stuck in a traffic jam or delayed on the tarmac and these training pants will keep your seats clean. Pampers recently made advances to their products, offering even more wetness protection. Plus, Pampers Swaddlers are now available through size 5.

I got the nori virus once on a cruise too. It was awful! So I always carry gummy vitamin C too now, for all of us.

    • Colleen Lanin, The Travel Mama says:

Amanda – Good tip! I pack vitamins for the whole family too when we travel. Thanks for your input!

  2. Emma Jayne says:

I love the inflatable duck bath! As a mum with a baby I also love the Melobaby changing bags as they are so compact that they fit in your handbag but hold enough for a couple of changes.

Emma Jayne – Thanks much for the Melobaby changing pads suggestion – sounds like a great option for traveling parents!
