Luxury Glamping in Colorado

Located 30 minutes from the famous Broadmoor Hotel in Colorado Springs, the Ranch offers luxurious woodsy accommodations in 13 beautifully decorated cabins. Here you’ll be surrounded by 100,000 acres of nature in the Pike National Forest.

When I first arrived at the property, I was stunned by the hypnotic ever-changing play of light on Hummingbird Pond and Penrose Lake. Broadmoor Ranch at Emerald Valley is romantic, awe-inspiring, whimsical and family-friendly — all mixed into one great glamping vacation.

Glamping Accommodations

Most cabins offer one bedroom accommodations plus living space with a fireplace. Larger families might want to book Lakeside Cabin or Copper Cabin, which feature two bedrooms each. For even more space to spread out, choose the Hill Cabin with two bedrooms plus a loft with additional beds. Plus, rollaway beds can be added to some cabins. For multiple families or multigenerational travel, book a few cabins for a vacation you’ll all treasure.

Although you’ll be surrounded by nature’s beauty, you can still enjoy creature comforts at Broadmoor Ranch. Cabins include gas fireplaces, heated floors in the bedrooms and bathrooms, Keurig coffee makers, mini fridges, humidifiers for that dry mountain air, and fans to keep cool.

Horseback Riding

Horseback riding is included as part of your stay at the Ranch. My family had been on a few trail rides before our Broadmoor glamping adventure, but nothing quite as challenging or scenic as what we found in Emerald Valley.

With the Gray Back Peak towering above us, our horses climbed around Mount Vigil and carried us down Emerald Valley Road. The terrain was often steep and narrow. I looked at my son nervously and often. He had just barely met the 7-year-old age requirement. Thankfully the horses were pros. Unlike me.

Fly-fishing

My kids had never been fishing before our visit to the Ranch at Emerald Valley. Now, I worry that fly fishing at the Ranch may have spoiled them forever.

We found two bodies of water fully stocked with rainbow, cutthroat, brook, and brown trout. It was almost as though The Broadmoor had those fish under contract to delight us with their out-of-water acrobatics.

The fish were also easy to hook. As a bonus, the chef cooked up our catches for us!

More Family Activities at Broadmoor Ranch

The wonderful thing about the Ranch is you can do it all or do nothing. Some guests kicked back on the deck, soaking in the views and reading. My family, on the other hand, did it all.

When we arrived, my kids raced over to the expansive lawn where my son’s first item of business was playing horseshoes. Meanwhile, my daughter opted to channel Merida the Brave with archery. After mastering the targets, she and my husband moved into the woods for a father-daughter hike. And what would a mountainside retreat with a lake be if you were not able to canoe?

Meals at Broadmoor Emerald Valley

In addition to chefs who’ll fry up your fish, gourmet meals are prepared three times a day in the Ranch’s grand lodge. Look for the world’s best cinnamon rolls at the breakfast buffet. Afternoon snacks vary, but our favorite was fresh beignets oozing with Colorado Palisade peaches. Lunches and dinners feature fine dining options, but kid-friendly items are available upon request. Kids especially love the twice-weekly cookouts at the Ranch.

Evening Entertainment at the Ranch

In the evening, our family played board games provided by the lodge, and listened to live cowboy tunes by a blazing fire. Later, we built our own campfire at our cabin. Then we soaked in the adjacent hot tub under the liquid-blue moonlight. With limited Wi-Fi family time is the focus at Broadmoor Ranch.

How to Reach Broadmoor Ranch Emerald Valley

Guests should check in at Broadmoor’s Base Camp. Then, you’ll be escorted via shuttle 40 minutes or so into the mountains up serpentine Old Stage Road.
