  2. I can confirm that chess are a great idea. Magnetic board is very useful, but you don’t need to play all game during the travel or even use a board. Chess diagrams are always a great idea to practice strategy moves or solve movement problems and better memorize. Book by Maksim Aksanov is a great choice. Of course it’s avaliable in electronic format, so you can have it on your phone or tablet.
