How do you survive a multi-week, 3,000-mile road trip that covers two countries and six states? Lots and lots of planning. A bit of luck helps, too. Every year, I take my kids on an extended road trip from Denver, Colorado to my hometown of Calgary in Canada. My husband joins us for part of the […]

A Frightfully Fun Hotel Stay at Nightmare on Curtis Street

After a while, Halloween memories start to blur together. Dress up, trick-or-treat, gorge on candy. Lather, rinse, repeat. But last weekend, my family experienced a Halloween event we will never forget. We attended the Nightmare on Curtis Street at the Curtis – A DoubleTree by Hilton. Each year during the month of October, the Curtis Hotel in […]

Glamping at the Broadmoor’s Ranch at Emerald Valley in Colorado

I am often torn between two worlds when my family stays at Colorado’s ultimate luxury resort, the Broadmoor. I love to be pampered but I’m also an outdoor lover; those worlds just don’t often mix. Until now. Set on 15 acres deep in Pike National Forest, the Broadmoor’s Ranch at Emerald Valley offers glamping at its finest. […]

Best Day Trip from Denver – Peaks and Pies in Colorado’s Backcountry

As a family travel writer I am often asked by visitors to my adopted home state of Colorado, “If you were new to Denver and had just one day to see the nearby backcountry, what would you do?” Here are two Denver day trip options to tempt nature lovers who love a good slice of […]

Colorado’s Best-kept Secret: Chautauqua in Boulder

I have extensively traveled throughout Colorado since moving here 10 years ago—from soaring the state’s 14,000-foot peaks to its gleaming lakes. Through it all, one of my favorite destinations is just 20 minutes from my house: Chautauqua. Discovering Chautauqua Located at the base of the Flatiron mountains in Boulder, this National Historic Landmark has charming […]

Southwest Florida – World’s Best Beaches, More Canals Than Venice & Seashells Galore

“Don’t worry, I’m pretty sure this is the way,” my kayaking guide Jon Black of Crazy Lure Bait & Tackle Shop called back to me. I sluiced through Southwest Florida’s cobalt-blue waters with my paddle and glanced around at the thick mangroves, their limbs gnarled and wild like the arms of a monster in a […]

Review of Westin Cape Coral Resort at Marina Village – Unspoiled Florida Paradise

I was not a big fan of Florida. Sure, I had been through Fort Lauderdale, Orlando and Miami but apart from Disney World, Southwest Florida had only served as a stopover for cruises and Caribbean vacations. When I was invited to give a review of Westin Cape Coral Resort at Marina Village, I admittedly wasn’t […]

YMCA of the Rockies: Colorado’s Most Affordable and Fun Vacation

If there is an affordable, fun family vacation in Colorado that rivals YMCA of the Rockies, I’d like to know about it. Since I moved to Colorado 10 years ago, we have had a family reunion and multiple trips to both of the YMCA of the Rockies’ locations. YMCA of the Rockies, Estes Park location […]

Kidtopia: Why Colorado’s Keystone Resort Is for Kids

A lot of Colorado’s ski resorts do a great job catering to kids but Keystone Resort has upped the snow-coated ante by creating Kidtopia, a multi-weekend festival for the little ones. Group that with the Kidtopia Snow Fort’s climbable tunnels and turrets and a five-acre mountain lake for skating…and you have a ton of wintry family fun. Why Keystone […]

8 Reasons Your Family Will Fall in Love with Disney World’s New Fantasyland

My family likes to joke that we’ve all grown Mickey ears as we’ve recently become huge fans of all things Disney. The fire was ignited a couple of years ago during a Disney Cruise and then in June with my husband’s first trip ever to Disneyland. When I was invited to cover the opening of Walt […]

The Broadmoor: Christmas Paradise in the Colorado Rockies

The Broadmoor’s tagline “If you’ve been here, you know” tells the story. This Colorado Springs resort boasts the longest-running consecutive winner of both the AAA’s Five-Diamond and Forbes Travel Guide’s Five-Star awards. With such accolades, you might expect a stuffy atmosphere where your children’s every erratic move makes you bristle, but it is quite the […]

Why to Ski Colorado with Kids this Winter

Ski Colorado, and you’re skiing the best. It’s the most wonderful time of the year in Colorado, and with world-class destinations in my backyard, there are plenty of reasons for this Outdoorsy Travel Mama to rejoice. Many years ago, my first real job was in PR for Utah’s ski industry. I had the opportunity to ski […]

Loews Coronado Bay Resort Loves Kids

Confession: when I was invited on a recent trip to Loews Coronado Bay Resort, I had never heard of Loews and figured the hotel must cater to business-folk. Then I saw their “Loews Loves Kids” program. Then I saw their expansive deck area with three pools (one of them just for kids), ping pong, humungous Connect Four […]
