The Birth of JetSetBabies
Necessity is the mother of all invention and Patty Opoien is a mother who invented JetSetBabies after searching for a company that could deliver baby supplies to her destination for a trip with her two young children. She says, “I was stressing a little on how I would handle all of our luggage and the kids in the airport and got the idea to shop and ship ahead my baby items. I looked on the Internet and couldn’t find any store that handled just baby supplies.” That was in 2000, and JetSetBabies has been delivering baby supplies to hotels and homes around the world ever since.

Making Travel Easier for Families
JetSetBabies offers a wide selection of baby products for traveling parents, such as diapers, baby food and formula, toys, and bath-time necessities. Pre-made Travel Packs are available for the beach, slopes, pool, or woods. These customizable bundles make ordering supplies for a weekend or weeklong vacation easy and fun.

Customer Service is Key
It is the high level of customer service that JetSetBabies provides that Patty believes sets the company apart. JetSetBabies calls hotels to ensure every single package arrives on time. She says, “We treat every customer like our best customer. I called and verified some information for someone who had ordered one $4 item. They were shocked that we had treated them so special – like they were our best customer.”

A True Travel Mama
Patty’s babies are older now but they still love to travel. Patty and her kids, Anna (age nine) and Aaron (age 15) take one big vacation and several smaller trips every year. The kids love visiting amusement parks but Patty’s favorite vacation was a trip to Seattle and Vancouver, followed by a journey home to Minnesota aboard the Canadian Rail.

Travel Advice
Patty advises parents traveling with young children to bring along favorite blankets, toys, and pacifiers as well as some undiscovered items. She says, “I’ve gotten through long waits at the airport, long plane rides and other delays by bringing out brand new items never seen….and it doesn’t have to be store bought toys. We have gotten so much mileage out of a little box filled with old key rings, cotton balls, or plastic measuring spoons.”

She also suggests letting little ones out of the stroller to explore while traveling. Patty says, “They get more out of the trip and it tires them out so they sleep better in a strange place. My daughter has never ridden in a stroller. When she was young I carried her in a sling. She was walking by ten-months-old and she walked everywhere! She has a fabulous sense of adventure.”

A Second Business for Babies
Patty’s second business, Baby Showers by Mail, grew out of requests from customers wanting to ship diapers as a gift to new parents. Their best-selling product is the Year Supply of Diapers. Patty says, “We ship out the new mom a welcome kit that explains how to order diapers, and then the moms call or e-mail every month with their brand and size and we ship out a case of diapers each month.”

Passion for Helping Parents
What does Patty like most about running JetSetBabies and Baby Showers by Mail? “I love the challenges of running my own business. I also love the customers. I can relate most to moms and love being able to calm their fears about traveling with a little one – and making their lives so much easier.”

  11. Lindley A says:

  12. These are brilliant businesses. I’m impressed. My husband & I love to travel and are starting to dip our toes in the water of learning to travel with kids – we have a brand new baby, our first. So far, we have one weekend road trip under our belts and it went great! Kelly

  19. Susan Bywater says:

My kids and I are attempting the 15 hour drive to Grandma and Grandpa’s, for the first time this summer. Should be interesting, I will have to look at this site more to get some ideas for things to take with me.

  20. We are taking Nyah to Disneyworld next year. She will be 17 mos. by then. I was curious about paying for her seat. I know many airlines allow free travel for younger than 2 years. Should I buy a seat anyway to make it easier? This is my first visit to Travelmamas. What a wonderful idea! I’m looking forward to reading more.

  21. I’m ALWAYS forgetting something when we travel – so I’m LOVING this idea!! The last time we traveled 10 plus hours with my son – I forgot diapers!! Not something that’s difficult to find, just a pain to have to go get them in the middle of the night when you’re traveling!!

  22. Following travel mamas on twitter as @champagnewisdom and tweeted! :)

  23. I would love to give a diaper gift for the next friend that has a baby! Who needs another blanket or bib? What a great idea!

This is such a great idea! It will help save on travel expenses and ease your mind that your little one is taken care of on your trip!

  27. This is the perfect way to get the necessary items where you need them without the stress!!! It is hard enough to get my husband, daughter and myself packed and ready to go- I look forward to using JetSetBabies for our next vacation!

  28. I subscribe to the newsletter!

  29. This gift certificate would be perfect since we are adopting a baby (don’t know which state she will be born in yet)and this would help us to easily travel and have the baby supplies we’d need.

  30. I love the idea of bringing “undiscovered” toys on a trip. I always try to keep different toys in our diaper bag so that when we’re out and about, my daughter plays with toys she doesn’t see very often. It’s true about not needing anything fancy, as well. The lids to baby food jars are the current toy of choice!

  31. what a fantastic idea.

  32. I like the idea of a box of old keys — very resourceful and inexpensive, which is a plus! Also, good for you for abandoning the stroller and letting the little ones walk. I’m sure it makes travel more complicated at times, but what a great way for kids to explore and stay active.

  33. Kimberly says:

This is a great idea. It should limit the number of trips to Walgreens for forgotten items!

  34. Kimberly says:

    I subscribe to the newsletter!

  35. Karen P says:

I really like how this will end up helping you remember to bring things that you would have forgot if it wasn’t in the kits.

  36. Oh, this would be terrific for my son…a new “father-to-be” and his wife. They haven’t a clue as to what to expect when they travel with a baby! My daughter (the Mommy of two has a chuckle over that!) Right now they are in the Caribbean…in March they went to Italy. They travel all the time..footloose and fancy free, but not for long! I’d love to give them a gift card to this wonderful website!

  37. helenlam says:

This sounds handy for vacations. I’m planning on going to visit the in-laws and my brother.

  38. Premade travel packages, how smart!

  39. Lisa G. says:

We were traveling to visit my in lawsd many years ago and it was getting very late so we decided to stay in a hotel for the night. It took a lot of searching to finally find one with a room open and we were so relieve to be able to rest. I requested a portable crib for my son who was an infant at the time and it was brought to our room. I was horrified to find out the crib has a strange black mold growing on it legs! We didn’t use the crib and it was a long night trying to keep him safe in our bed. I learned to always travel with a portable crib and I love that Jet Set Babies carries PopATot and Cosco Funsport Play Yard on their site!

We just jetted across the pond to England with our 2 yr old and if not for the tricks up our sleeve would have been toast for sure on a long haul flight. Had a bag of new toys/activities he had never seen before – Max & Ruby hide and seek book with windows to open, sticker book, funky kinetic toy, portable dvd player with new dvd’s and of course snacks, his fave pj’s and blankets and plenty of nappies.

  47. Going on a 4 week trip this summer with baby & will check jetsetbabies. Currently, in New York at TBEX. Cheers!

  48. This would be great for our road trips!

  49. Great idea – I hate packing baby supplies with the new charge to check bags, especially diapers as they take up a ton of room. I generally wait to purchase them until I get to my destination.
