Bryan Richards, The Hungry Travel Daddy

What is your favorite thing about being a parent?

Baby giggles and snuggles. Can he stay this age forever?

What is the best gift you ever gave or received?

Before we embarked on the journey of parenthood, my wife and I decided to forgo Christmas gifts and instead spent the money on an African safari. I think we may have spent more on the trip than those gifts would have cost, but it was so worth it.

What was your favorite toy as a child?

Matchbox cars! I would play with them on the floor for hours and hours. They were my favorite because I could play with them on the garage floor while my Dad was restoring real cars.

What is your favorite drink and why?

Craft beer. I’ve been drinking since it craft breweries were called microbreweries. (I may not have been 21 yet either…) Yes, I was the weirdo who would bring “good beer” to fraternity parties. I loved the artistry of it over wine.

What is your favorite beauty product and why?

I own 15 plain black t-shirts. You’re going to see a lot of photos of me in them. They make Hungry Travel Daddy falsely look like Skinny Travel Daddy.

More about The Hungry Travel Daddy

Bryan Richards began his blog, The Wandering Gourmand, to document his culinary adventures with his wife around the world (and around the kitchen). During the first eight years of their marriage, they followed their taste buds across five continents, 20 countries, and 71 cities and drank plenty of beer along the way. Then Deacon was born, and they’re learning how to incorporate their son into their culinary adventures. Currently, Bryan balances his role as stay-at-home dad to a toddler with his novel writing and freelance gigs covering craft beer, food, and travel. Follow his adventures on Twitter and SnapChat.

Shobha George, The Expat Travel Mama

What’s your favorite thing about being a parent?

Constant entertainment in the form of children’s antics. There’s never a dull moment in our home!

What’s your favorite TV show?

Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt.

What’s your favorite food?

New York pizza. I can live on the stuff. In fact, in law school I pretty much did.

What’s your favorite tech gadget?

I love my iPhone. I resisted for so long and now I wonder at all the years I wasted without receiving every email on time and photographing everything I ate. Will I ever get those years back? Sadly, no.

Where’s your dream destination?

I would love to do a road trip through New Zealand. Ever since I saw Lord of The Rings, I’ve been smitten with the landscape.

More about The Expat Travel Mama

Shobha lives in London, England with her husband, two children (boy/girl twins, aged 10) and dog. Paige Conner Totaro, The Startup Travel Mama

What is your favorite thing about being a parent?

My favorite thing about being a parent, aside from the hugs and love, is watching my kids become independent. I could not be prouder than when I see them advocating for themselves.

What is your favorite movie?

One of my favorite movies is an old one called A Little Romance, starring Diane Lane as a brainy teenager who finds a soul mate in Paris, with Sir Laurence Oliver as a sort of matchmaker/angel who facilitates a romantic escapade in Venice. It made me fall in love with France and Italy long before I ever saw them in person.

What was your favorite toy as a child?

Probably my shortwave radio. I loved picking up staticky broadcasts from around the world.

What is your favorite beauty product?

Kat Von D Tattoo Liner. It’s the only eyeliner I can apply perfectly and won’t smudge all over by the end of the day.

What is your dream destination?

My favorite destinations usually involve beaches and clear blue water and very little else – like Koh Jum, Thailand; Vieques, Puerto Rico; the beaches near Cartagena, Colombia. I’m dying to get to the Cook Islands someday!
