Passports with Purpose – World Tour of the Web

This World Tour of the Web is dedicated to Passports with Purpose, the annual fundraiser supported by travel bloggers. By now, you may know that Passports with Purpose is a fundraiser to build two libraries in Zambia. You may also know that for just a $10 donation you can win the Travel Mamas prize, a four-pack of Disneyland Park Hoppers and a two-night stay at any Hilton Garden Inn in the world. But did you know there are 88 fabulous other travel prizes to choose from? And did you know you need to donate by THIS FRIDAY to win?

I’ve enjoyed reading other bloggers’ favorite prize selections. Instead of telling you what I put my donation dollars toward (hello, I want to win!), I am going to share with you what my favorites would be IF…

Passports with Purpose

If I lived in Europe…
I would definitely put my money on a 1-Week Apartment Stay in Umbria via WhyGo Italy. On my last trip to Italy, I spent one day on a farm in Sicily. The incredible food, the beautiful landscape, and sharing the experience with my family made this one of my favorite vacation days ever. This prize is for a week-long stay in a fully-equipped and beautifully-renovated apartment that sleeps four on a working farm near Assisi, Umbria. Mama Mia! ($798 value)

If I had a babysitter…
I would love to take advantage of the 5 Day Tournament of Roses Parade and Los Angeles Tour. This two-person package on Mira Terra Travel includes four nights in a luxurious hotel, reserved Grand-stand seats for viewing Rose Parade, private viewing of parade floats, city tour, and taxes. ($1696 value)

If I could afford airfare…
I would be all over the 4 Nights in a Suite at the Honua Kai Resort in Maui. I recommend parents book more than one room whenever possible for better sleep and for privacy post-bedtime, so I love that this package via Delicious Baby comes with a one-bedroom suite. And it’s in Hawaii. Need I say more? ($4,000 value)

If I was a daredevil…
I would go bungee jumping in New Zealand. The Nevis Experience (Bungy and Swing in New Zealand) package from A Dangerous Business is for thrill-seeking travelers (with more guts than I have) who want to jump off the largest bungee in all of New Zealand. ($280 value)

If I didn’t have kids…
I would  put my donation chances toward One Week at the Fabulous Rancho La Puerta Spa on Things You Should Do. I could use a vacation filled with Pilates, nature walks, swimming, spa treatments, and delicious healthy food. Couldn’t you? ($3,000 value)

If I was Canadian…
I would wipe the drool from my lips and plunk some money down to win one of the two Canada packages procured by NearAfar. The Ultimate Toronto Escape Package includes a $350 JAUNT certificate so you can select your own hotel accommodations in Toronto PLUS a bunch of gift certificates to the author’s favorite Toronto restaurants and other haunts. Her descriptions of the food will make you want to hop on a plane to Toronto today, eh? She’s also giving away a scarf and other Canadian swag. ($900 value)

The other Canadian prize that caught my eye is the Echo Valley Ranch & Spa Experience Package on Writing Horseback. I used to ride horses competitively in middle and high school (English–I love jumping!) and spending time at a dude ranch is on my bucket list. In addition to plenty of horseback riding, this three-day/four-night package includes fly-fishing (also on my bucket list), a spa treatment, meals, and scenery to swoon for. ($4,240 value)

If I lived on the East Coast…
I would go for 3 Nights in Hotel Monteleone in New Orleans. I have never visited New Orleans so this package via A Traveler’s Library, for a stay in the heart of the French Quarter at a literary landmark hotel sounds marveilleux.

Whatever prizes strike your fancy, act quick! You must donate by this Friday, December 16, 2011 to be eligible to win. ENTER AND DONATE NOW!

  1. Since I am on the East Coast, I was all over that New Orleans prize – and the Boston weekend getaway. But I’m also psyched about some of the travel gear giveaways, and those are good anywhere!

  2. Great world tour, Colleen. However, you don’t have to be Canadian or live in Canada to bid on the Echo Valley Ranch and Spa Passports with Purpose package. I’m based in San Francisco, and it was an easy (United Airlines) flight to Vancouver and then a short hop to Kamloops, BC.

P.S. I used to show horses competitively, too. I rode Western at the Junior Grand National in San Francisco.

  3. Nancy – I don’t mean to imply a person must be Canadian to win your fabulous prize! I just meant, if I lived a little closer to BC, I’d be all over that prize. Unfortunately, I’m all outta miles so the prizes I bid on are closer to home (San Diego).
