Until you join and start tweeting, you just don't "get" Twitter.

Even though it is becoming wildly popular, Twitter feels like a wonderful secret I can't seem to convince my friends and family to get in on. I never can seem to explain to them the benefits of Twitter. Thankfully, I don't have to. Metropolitan Mama does it for me in her post 8 Reasons to Consider Starting a Twitter Account.

Here's reason number 9: You can win cool stuff on Twitter! As a blogger, I love being able to spread the word about Travel Mamas giveaways on this social media site. As a person who likes to win stuff, I love being able to enter contests on Twitter! So far, I have won a $100 gift certificate to Marriott and a Frommer's Mexico guidebook. I'm sure I could win more cool stuff if I tried a little harder. In fact, there are tweeps (yes, that's Twitter talk for peeps) who join the site seemingly just to enter contests.
